School Holidays Then vs Now

It's the school holidays right now.. for a week, and I'm seeing parents frantically looking for all sorts of activities for their child.. while I'm sitting here going.. yeah I'll let my kids sleep in

Am I doing something wrong? Or are there other parents that are like me? We don't really give a hoot about school holiday activities, while just letting our kids chill.. be sloths.. because for me, they kinda deserve a break? Am I missing out on something by not sending them for camps and stuff? If I am, please let me know in the comments.

For this household, holidays usually consist of waking up late, movies, snacks, baking and going to see grandparents. During the last holidays we watched 4 movies in a day!!! I was up to my eyeballs in musical movies, but my eldest had the biggest smile on her face the entire day.

I understand that quite a number of parents are working and so by finding camps and activities, their kids don't need to stay home alone...

Remember our holidays though? Back in our time, holidays meant.. well, holidays! Either we traveled or cousins would all balik kampung and get into trouble together on a daily basis! Traveling... Even if it was in the country, we went somewhere whenever our parents could afford.. These days.. the prices of holidays in Malaysia itself is madness... and I am just taking into account the 4 of us.. what about the rest of you who have more than 2 kids? How do you travel and let them experience the rest of the places in our own country?

I recently went to the Matta fair and almost threw up at seeing the prices... For instance, going to Kuching would be RM 1599... and going to Manila, Philippines, would also cost RM 1599... I cannot and couldn't brain this!!!

How do we go about saving for international holidays when we've exhausted all our monthly cash income on.. you know.. trying to not starve and die?

This time, it would be a little different, like today, it is Saturday and my kid has to go to school.. tomorrow too for her Taekwondo grading... I don't remember doing all these when I was in school.. like the holidays meant everything stopped... except for homework.. that continued till the cows came home.

I kinda understand why some parents would want their kids going to other activities.. these days there's no such thing as walking around aimlessly in the area you lived to make friends.. it's like nope. stay home... it's safer.. kids go out, and we're not absolutely certain they will make it home in one piece.

Our time? yeah walk 10km to the shopping mall because you and your cousins are bored... in the blistering heat.. and  we would still come home safe..maybe a little heat stroke that has caused us to be a little bit nutty

All in all.. I look forward to any holidays really!! because I don't have to stick to my usual routine and can just laze about with my Kindle if I feel like it...

To all the kids out there.. HAVE A FANTASTIC HOLIDAY!!

To all parents.. Let's try to survive the next week and hopefully we'll make it out alive.
