KBAT, HOTS, Studying Then and Now

Woahhhh.. 

Yesterday's BM paper wasn't easy. It was so KBAT (Kemahiran Berfikir Aras Tinggi) / HOTS (Higher Order Thinking Skills)

Was this a good move by the Education Ministry? When the kids are so used to being spoon fed information during lessons? 

And then there are the really useless don't make sense kinda textbooks that they are currently using.

If you take a look at the current textbooks the kids are using, they are nothing like those we used back in our time. 

Example, What is Photosynthesis? 

In our time, we flipped the textbook and we could find the answer, probably in bold.

Now? Flip then whole damn textbook, still cannot locate answer.

And this is why there are millions of buku rujukan being sold!!! 

When The Eldest is doing her homework, usually History or Science requires taking out textbook, revision books, buku rujukan and sometimes even checking if what she found was right on the Internet.

KSSR is crap. Seriously.

Why take away KBSR/KBSM when they were working fine?

And now with this KSSR they seem to have 1001 books to bring to school every single day. So much for lightening their load.

Sometimes I wonder, if The Eldest would be better off in a different education system.. but then financially we would be killing ourselves.

If we had the means, I would have chucked her into a different education system altogether since the beginning.... but we don't... so we make do with the National schools around but pray that she does her best and can hopefully get the best out of this.

Don't get me wrong, I went to a National Public School as well.. so did my parents, and sister, and cousins. But times have really changed.. and I don't know if it's for the better, or worse... 

Kids as young as 7 are having "Stress" these days.. I don't remember being stressed till I was probably 15? 16 even? Some of the things she's learning in P4.. we learnt in like Form 2? So are we stupid? or are they smarter?

Is this healthy? The competition in school is one thing, then there are the other crazy parents you have to deal with who are jealous just because your kid is smarter than theirs.... 

To those parents, all I have to say is 

STOP BEING SO KAMPUNG CAN KA?

They can make it seem like your kid got top in class because she/he cheated.. when in reality... have you looked at your kid's results lately? blind ah?????

Well, I just feel that with the current system, they are causing unnecessary stress at a young age in the kids, and when the kids are stressed? PARENTS ALSO BECOME STRESSED UP LA!!!

We need a system that helps them think.. use their brains... why? how? when? what? who? which? .. and not just giving them the answers because I've realized.. when you change the structure of the question.. even if they know the answer, they second guess themselves. Why? Because when they were taught, the sentence was structured differently.

Sigh, 26 days till final exams..

Let's see what happens this year.

After the superbly nutty BM papers, the Ministry says?

UPSR IS NOT IMPORTANT AND SERIOUS, IT IS NOT CONSIDERED AN EXAM.

Then why do we prep the kids for this Godforsaken papers?!!!
